What I Keep on Hand in Our Kids’ Medicine Kit
I’m very much a “prepared, not panicked” parent especially when it comes to sick days and middle-of-the-night curveballs. I don’t want an overflowing medicine cabinet, but I do want to know I have the basics on hand when something pops up. This is the basic starter medicine kit that I gift to many of my friends pre-baby
This is what lives in our kids’ medicine kit and actually gets used.
A Good Organizational Container
This might be the unsung hero of the whole setup. I love the container I found because it comes with two sizes and holds everything clearly without feeling cluttered. Being able to grab exactly what I need — quickly — matters when everyone is tired.
Dye-Free Acetaminophen & Dye-Free Motrin
These are absolute staples. I always keep both on hand, and I specifically choose dye-free versions. Simple, reliable, and something I don’t want to be scrambling for at 2 a.m.
Windy Sticks (Infant Gas Relief)
I never needed these with our first, so I honestly didn’t think much about them. With our second? Total game changer. When an infant can’t get gas out and nothing else is working, these saved us in the middle of the night more than once.
Simethicone Drops
I swear by these. They’re usually effective within 15–20 minutes, and they’ve been one of the most consistently helpful things we’ve used for infant gas discomfort.
Portable Nebulizer
This is one of those items I like having before I need it. We use a portable nebulizer with Quinton Isotonic, and it’s reassuring to have on hand when congestion or breathing discomfort pops up.
Boogie Wipes Micro-Mist Inhaler
This is such a gentle, comforting option for coughs and congestion. My daughter will sometimes just ask to hold it when she isn’t feeling well, which tells me everything. Easy, calming, and non-intimidating.
All Good Goop
This is my go-to for almost anything skin-related: diaper rash, minor burns, dryness — you name it. It’s one of those products that earns its spot because it’s so versatile.
Final Thought
This kit isn’t about overdoing it, it’s about having a few trusted things ready so you’re not making decisions when you’re exhausted. Everything here has earned its place in our house through real use, real nights, and real kids.
